Oklahoma City residents Rob Phenix, Shelly Collins, and Blake Collins exhibited new bodies of work at Untitled [ArtSpace] December 3, 2004 through January 22, 2005.
Blake Collins spent his childhood in Ada, Jenks, and Edmond, Oklahoma and has lived his adult life in Oklahoma City where he attended Oklahoma Christian University and met his wife Shelly Collins. Paired with his love of running, drawing has been a lifetime activity for Collins. Collins’ main emphasis in college was Advertising Design, which included formal training in illustration. Folks encompassed his craftsmanship in illustration and his knack for image-driven storytelling through which he makes the ordinary significant. Each drawing or scratch board piece was layered with descriptive information about the people represented in the starkness of black and white. Collins exaggerated certain characteristics of each figure to draw the viewer’s attention to the theme of the composition, thus adding an element of humor and intrigue. "These are drawings are of people I have seen or imagined," Collins said. "Each one inspired me to tell a story."
