My work is the residue of my personal exploration
of connection. Spoken through a simple yet formal language of visual
images, it is a constant counterpart to my own interiority. We
move and change from everything we come in contact with. Our memories
and experiences are the structural images that give us a place
to build on. These are our starting points that allow us to spread
outwards, towards a world that is a crossing and intermingling
of each individual pattern.
The combined myriad patterns of life are seen
in glimpses and it is this larger picture, where we come into existence
that I
contemplate. This is the space, within the moment of connection where the universe
resides, where we as organic images become corporeal.
Drawing on inspiration from the landscape of
human interaction, I work with metaphors and analogies used through
the materials of cloth, wood and dye, figure and ground ambiguity,
rich color shifts, reflective and non-reflective texture. I experience
these through my sense and in a physical manner join with them.
This connecting becomes a form of knowing it is an understanding
through an incremental yet unlimited process of awareness and trust.
When I work in this manner, I look into my own structure of being
and simultaneously the transient and timeless splendor of the universe.
The excitement of exploring surfaces and their
supporting structure comes with the notion of varying their individual
elements or their placement while maintaining the delicate balance
between them. Moving from the mere manipulation of fabric to an
object infused with personal meaning, believing that the specificity
of my own thoughts will read universally to others, I seek a more
intimate relation with life and I revel in the ability to share
the fierce and fragile beauty of the world.
