During the February of 2007, Untitled [ArtSpace] hosted A Month of Jazz featuring never-before-exhibited artwork by the late Oklahoma painter George Bogart (1933-2005) and jazz performances by Oklahoma musicians.
Untitled [ArtSpace] is located in the Deep Deuce district of Oklahoma City, which played a pivotal role in the development of jazz in the 1940s. In its side galleries, Untitled [ArtSpace] exhibited George Bogart’s Jazz Series, a group of works the Oklahoma abstract expressionist created in the 1980s. The works in Jazz Series were inspired by jazz music and each piece is named after a jazz song. Some of the works in the Jazz Series were on 331/3 vinyl LPs, directly connecting their inspiration to their form.
In addition, Untitled [ArtSpace] hosted jazz
performances in conjunction with the Metropolitan Library System’s film, lecture, and performance series “A Jazz Journey.” Each
Monday in February, jazz historian John Williams facilitated a
discussion and film viewing at the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library
focusing on an era in the development of jazz.
