Oklahoma City residents Rob Phenix, Shelly Collins, and Blake Collins exhibited new bodies of work at Untitled [ArtSpace] December 3, 2004 through January 22, 2005.

Collins was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved to Oklahoma City to attend college. Collins' main emphasis in college was Advertising Design coupled with some formal art training.  After college, Collins worked as a graphic designer and not long after making the transition towards pursuing her art as a career. Collins' immediate interests lie in working full time as a mosaic, mixed media artist specializing in custom mosaic, mixed media works for residential, commercial, and public settings.

Shelly’s choice of vibrant colors and placement of shapes are reflective of her background in painting and design.  Her mosaics are modeled after things in nature, such as vegetation and seashells, and are embellished with small found objects that allude to memories and the passing of time.  Within each elaborate piece, the formal elements of beauty prevail.

Artist's Statement:

This work is an intuitive expression of the beauty I experience in both my physical and spiritual environment, created from my enthusiasm for shape and color.

In this body of work, Changing Colors, I have focused on expressing my enthusiasm for shape and color, and combined it with simple designs inspired by organic forms.   For me, mosaic was a natural transition from my painting style.  I can combine my knowledge of line and form in a multidimensional medium while still utilizing elements of formal design and bold color.
