Summer 2008 UNTITLED [PRESS] Workshops
*NOTE: Workshops are limited to 10 participants.
Carol Barton will lead a hands-on workshop on making pop-ups on Saturday and Sunday, August 9 and 10. Barton’s unique pop-up books, cards, and other paper crafts turn ordinary paper into whimsical and intricate art. The two-day workshop will have two sessions from 10 am - 4:30 pm each day. Participants will learn basic on-the-fold pop-up structures, then progress through a series of more complicated three-dimensional glued constructions. Barton’s workshop will cover props, platforms, spirals, V-folds, and straddle pop-ups. The emphasis of the workshop will be on developing and understanding the simple mechanics involved in the art of “paper engineering,” a craft utilized in pop-up and movable books. There will be one 50% discount scholarship for an enrolled high school or college student. A letter of inquiry must be submitted to Untitled [ArtSpace] on or before July 15 to be considered for the scholarship. Supplies will be included.
