OKLAHOMA CITY—An introduction to the ancient Japanese art of paper folding will be taught at Untitled [ArtSpace] on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Sarah-Gretchen Lytle will lead the free workshop for ages 10 and up and will teach techniques used to create different types of origami. Participants are welcome to bring their own origami paper, however supplies will be included in the workshop. The class will be held in the Untitled [Press] studio at Untitled [ArtSpace] from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The workshop will begin with a brief history of origami and will cover basic folds, terminology, and instruction on the folding of several origami designs. Participants will also learn how to understand written, verbal, and visual directions for folding origami, including diagrams common in origami books. By the end of the workshop, participants will have completed several origami designs and will be able to take home diagrams and origami paper to practice their newly learned techniques and experiment with more difficult folds. There will also be examples of creative ways to use origami figures beyond their decorative function. All skill levels are welcome and space is limited to 15 students.
