OKLAHOMA CITY—Michelle Martin will give an artist talk and teach a Photolithography Workshop at Untitled [ArtSpace]. The workshop will be held from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7. The artist talk will be at Untitled [ArtSpace] on Friday, September 5, at 6:30 pm. Martin’s talk will cover the printmaking technique of photolithography, as well as the influence of printmaking on her artwork.

Photolithography is a printmaking technique that uses light to transfer an image from a photomask to a light-sensitive chemical on a substrate. The process combines some of the principles of photography with those of etching to generate images. Martin's workshop will offer an introduction to photolithography and she will demonstrate the process of multiple plate printing, including color ink mixing, paper to plate registration, making photo positives, and several other technical approaches.  Participants should bring drawings and/or digital images that can be broken down into color separations in Photoshop.

Michelle Martin received her BFA in Printmaking and Drawing from Texas Tech University and her MFA in Printmaking and Drawing from Ohio State University. She is an accomplished artist and has won many grants and awards for her work, including an Outstanding Achievement in Printmaking Award from the 31st Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition in 2007 and an Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition Artist Award of Excellence in 2003. She is also a 2008 recipient of the Oklahoma Visual Arts Fellowship from the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition. Her prints offer skewed perspectives on characters inspired by mythology, fairy tales, and religious iconography. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in Iceland, Italy, and England, and her art is included in collections such as the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper and the Muscarelle Museum of Art at the College of William and Mary. She is currently an associate professor of printmaking at the University of Tulsa.

Tuition for the workshop is $175 per participant. High school and college students are eligible to receive a 50% discount on workshop tuition. Interested students must submit a letter of interest and proof of enrollment to Untitled [ArtSpace] by August 30. Supplies for the workshop will be included and space is limited.
