Suminagashi or “floating ink” is the Japanese process of marbling plain paper with water and ink to transform it into something vibrant and colorful. It originated in Japan as early as the 12th century, and continues to be a fun and easy process that lends spectacular results.
Join us on March 23rd for a wood block workshop taught by Artspace’s Education Director, Alexa Goetzinger! This workshop kicks off our Steamroller Festival open studio Saturdays. With this discounted rate of $40 you will learn the art of woodblock printing while carving and printing your own small wood block in a manageable three hours! If you can complete this workshop, there’s no doubt you can do the Steamroller Festival too! All supplies will be provided - just come with a drawn image (or one in mind) that you’d want to print with your block!
Learn about Solarplates in our studio on March 30th from 1 - 4 PM ! Solarplates were developed as a nontoxic alternative to traditional etching processes. It is a simple, safer and faster approach than traditional etching and relief printing. This process does not use grounds, acids or solvents. The plates are exposed to UV light and developed with ordinary tap water.
Go ahead and mark your calendars for the 2019 Steamroller Festival for Saturday, April 27th, 2019! Our Steamroller Festival is our largest community event of the year, bringing hundreds of people from all over to the Deep Deuce District of Oklahoma City. This one day festival is rooted in the printing of large-scale woodblocks carved by local Oklahoma artists! We’ll have artist vendors, food trucks and live music throughout the day!
It is sure to be a fun, art-filled day with live music, food, artist vendors and community supporting and exhibiting Oklahoma artists.

Press member Virginia Sitzes is well-versed in the art of screen printing and makes all kinds of cool clothes with her unique designs! Learn the basics from creating your own design to burning a screen to produce t-shirts in the Artspace studio. Please bring your own t-shirts to print on, Artspace will provide paper for printing in addition to all of your other supplies such as ink and screens.
Artspace at Untitled is partnering with the OK Film Society in the first annual Oklahoma Film Fest in December! As part of the three-day event, we will be screening the local anthology film “Mono” on Saturday, December 15th at 2:30 PM. The film tells the story of one day in the life of the female protagonist Molly in five sections. Each section is unique, directed by a different local filmmaker. We look forward to seeing you there!

On November 15th, Inspiring Conversations with Jeff Krisman will be back at Artspace from 6-7:30 PM! Throughout the evening we’ll hear from Tom Spanier, an artist and partner of Around Town Art LLC, Topher Owen, the Creative Director of the The Space Improv group and the BRD Jazz Trio. Throughout the evening guests will be entertained with Topher Owen’s comedy troupe, listen to music from our featured musicians and have the opportunity to submit questions throughout the interviews. Join us on Saturday, November 3rd, from 1-4 PM for a silk scarf marbling workshop with Adrienne Day! Produce patterns like smooth marble or other kinds of stone on wearable scarves. Participants will have the opportunity to produce two pieces: a small square scarf and a longer rectangular scarf.
Our short film program is back on Thursday, November 1st from 6:00-7:30pm! Join in the conversation as we screen shorts in collaboration with Alex Palmer, from the Oklahoma Film Society. All shorts will contain sound but no dialogue from the characters. This alternative approach to film will certainly evoke a night of interpretation, interesting conversation and dialogue.
Artspace is teaming up with the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition Saturday, September 15th, from 1-4 PM to host an Artist Survival Kit Workshop! For $15, come and get your portfolio in top shape with a fresh artist statement, refined resume, and instructions on how to take quality images of your work. In this workshop participants will learn how to create a sculptural, fine merino wool cowl with surface applications of silks, bamboo top, and non-superwash art yarns. Join the OKC Modern Quilt Guild for the Thread-to-Bed community quilting event on Saturday, June 23rd from 11am-3pm. Participants will form assembly line teams to construct blocks for an improvisational quilt! You do not need to be a quilting expert to participate, you just need $15 ($10 for OKC Modern Quilt Guild members), minimal sewing machine skills, and lots of creativity.
