Opening Reception | February 21st (1pm - 3 pm)
Ashley Allen Wilson paintings and sculpture at Artspace.
I met Laura Warriner at the Kirkpatrick at my first show in OKC in 1986. Although I've rarely seen her, she has been very generous to me and my work. She got me a show at OKCU in '88, City Arts in '94, and now at Artspace in '26. Thank you, Laura.
I have been working on 12 themes for painting and sculpture since 1973. Two of them are on display here: "Time Like a River" in the main room and "New Melodies" in the other room.
In '75, a sentence went through my mind: "Walking by the river, time like a river flows through me and I am one with it." This painting deals with time as it relates to ethics.
Also in '75, I dreamed a sentence, "I must write new melodies". Melody is a metaphor for serving people and nations in selfless love.
"Nativity" is one of the images of the "Brick not Wood" theme. In it, a bird woman symbolizes a rebirth of ethical civilization on the Great Plains after the great Indigenous American cultures of the past.
Enjoy Ashley Allen Wilson’s work from January 12 to March 28
