Mikel Davison Exhibition

Mikel Davison was born in Alva, OK, in the 1950s. His parents were both veterans of WWII; therefore, Mikel is a baby boomer. Artists run in the family. Mikel’s grandmother was a very talented artist, but she passed away before he was born.

Mikel’s mother encouraged his love of nature, art, and history. She provided opportunities for him to explore his interests by taking him on nature walks and visiting historical sites. Mikel is dyslexic, and at the time dyslexia was unknown, but his mother pushed and prodded him to achieve academically.

He earned a basketball scholarship and attended East Central University, graduating with a degree in history. He taught and coached for 39 years. Along the way, he went back to college at USAO and completed an art degree. He used art as a stress reliever.

It wasn’t until 2009, while he was teaching art and history at Duncan, that he began to pursue his art more seriously. He was influenced by his favorite western artists, such as Russell and Remington. He also admired Native American artists such as Allan Houser and the Kiowa Five. As a result, he developed his own eclectic style. He has pieces at Wildfire Gallery in the Paseo Art District. He also has artwork in New Mexico.
